On 22 May 2025, University Sains Malaysia (USM) in collaboration with M.E.I. Consultants Sdn. Bhd (MEI). successfully hosted an engaging industry guest lecture titled “Building Up Right” — a session that brought together academia and industry to explore the future of superstructural construction.
The session was led by Ir. Catherine Sim Siew Ping, with valuable insights and contributions from Ir. Lim Kent Khai and Ong Chen Chiet. Together, the speakers provided students with a comprehensive overview of real-world challenges, current innovations, and forward-looking perspectives in the field of superstructure engineering.
From tackling on-site construction issues to the integration of new technologies and sustainable practices, the lecture provided a deep dive into what it takes to build smarter, safer, and stronger. The speakers also shared personal industry experiences and advice that inspired students preparing to enter the professional world.
The session was met with enthusiasm and active participation from the students, who posed thoughtful questions throughout the talk. A short Q&A prize session added an extra spark to the afternoon, encouraging even more interaction and learning.
This guest lecture marks the beginning of an ongoing effort to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice. MEI looks forward to continuing this collaboration with USM through more knowledge-sharing sessions in the near future.
